HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital honors extraordinary nurse

At a ceremony held earlier today at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital, a registered nurse was honored for the extraordinary, compassionate care she provides daily in her role. Kimberly Ball, a registered nurse in the hospital’s Emergency department, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses ®. Today’s ceremony marked the first time the DAISY Award has been given at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Ball, who has served at the hospital for 23 years, was nominated by a fellow colleague. “Kimberly takes the time to assess situations that may otherwise be overlooked. She cares for the patient while they are here, and beyond. She treats every individual as she would like to be treated in the hospital,” wrote a colleague in her nomination letter.

Nominees were also recognized at today’s ceremony.

“Nurses are heroes every day,” said Judy Balcitis, chief nursing officer at HSHS Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s hospitals. “The DAISY award was created to honor and recognize nurses who provide extraordinary care to patients every day.”
