HSHS hospitals announce Nurse Exemplar Award recipients

This week, during National Nurses Week, HSHS St. Joseph’s and Sacred Heart hospitals presented the 2018 Nurse Exemplar Awards to two very deserving registered nurses. These peer-nominated awards are the two hospitals’ highest nursing honors and recognize extraordinary nurses who exhibit excellence in caring for patients and families, provide personalized patient care, and have a superior level of knowledge and skill.

At St. Joseph’s Hospital, the award was presented to Regina “Regi” Geissler, RN, who works in the hospital’s emergency department as a trauma coordinator. Wrote a nominator, “Regi is a colleague who is committed to our mission. She is respected by colleagues, physicians, and patients. The impressions she leaves on those who work with her are life-long. She has made a difference in so many lives.”

At Sacred Heart Hospital, the award was presented to Kristine “Kristy” Terry, RN, CCRN, who works in the hospital’s critical care unit as a charge nurse. Wrote a nominator, “Kristy serves as a charge nurse, preceptor, teacher and organ donation resource nurse who gently guides and teaches others to instill our core values. She has devoted herself to the pursuit of knowledge and professional growth. Kristy brings a combination of knowledge, leadership and dedication to the growth of other nurses and that makes her a great exemplar.”

This year marks the second year that St. Joseph’s Hospital has given this honor, and the 12th year that Sacred Heart Hospital has done so.
